As part of the Thread project and in observance of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25, Dote Femminile is hosting an event exploring the theme of a journey through cultural heritage, stereotypes, and opportunities for empowerment. The project, founded by Denise Bonapace and Margherita Mazza, is dedicated to the value of traditional women’s artisanal skills, such as embroidery and weaving. The event features a textile installation, a talk, a sewing workshop, and a special sale of a capsule collection.
TALK: A JOURNEY THROUGH CULTURAL HERITAGE, STEREOTYPES, AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR EMPOWERMENT
The talk on Friday November 27th, at 6PM, organized by Equa Cooperativa, is an opportunity to discuss the value of women’s knowledge and its role in creating new forms of recognition and participation. It is an opportunity to rediscover traditions and stories that span time, including through the screening of interviews curated by director Samuele Romano in collaboration with NABA’s Department of Cinema and Animation, in which various voices share their stories through memories of their wedding textile trousseaus.
DOTE FEMMINILE
The Dote Femminile workshop on Sunday, November 29, from 11:30AM to 2:30PM, focuses on the social and cultural revival of the doily: a textile that has lost its original practical function but still exudes charm and mystery thanks to its simple complexity. Doblies become mandalas: when applied to everyday garments, they serve as conduits for positive energy and elegance, as well as connections to one’s artisanal roots. The workshop introduces the art of embroidery: Denise and Margherita will demonstrate the various stitches that can be used. What to bring: 1–2 lightweight garments on which to sew by hand; if you’d like, you can also bring your own doblie.
