Fondazione Sozzani hosts Marco Belpoliti, Martina Corgnati, Elio Grazioli and Andrea Zucchina, who present Riga 42. Marx Ernst, a book published by Quodlibet.
When we think of Surrealism in painting, we think of Max Ernst. The arrival of the crate containing his collages for the legendary exhibition at the Au Sans Pareil bookshop-gallery in 1921 is described by witnesses as the beginning of a new era: Dadaism was no longer there, something new had arrived, something dreamlike and visionary. Nothing could be more relevant in these times of “iconic turning points” and post-collage and post-montage.
We all have a wealth of Max Ernst’s works in our minds, yet little has been written or translated about him in Italy. The volume attempts to fill at least part of this gap, retracing his life and inventions through historical texts, reference analyses, and new contributions.
