Kris Ruhs DIALOGUE BETWEEN PHOTOGRAPHY AND PAINTING – THE CARLA SOZZANI COLLECTION MEETS THE WORKS OF KRIS RUHS
April 2026, from Monday 13th to Sunday 26th, via Bovisasca 87
During Milan Art Week and on the occasion of the bicentenary of photography, Fondazione Sozzani presents an exhibition that brings photography and painting into dialogue.
The exhibition curated by Maddalena Scarzella presents a selection of works from the photography collection of Carla Sozzani alongside several paintings by Kris Ruhs, creating an unprecedented encounter between visions, techniques, and artistic sensibilities.
The exhibition path invites us to read photography and painting as practices that share the same question: what does it mean to produce images today? If photography has historically expanded the field of the representable real, painting presents itself as a counterpoint to the speed of the visual flow. For many artists today, immersed in the horizon of the incessant production of digital images, painting is not a nostalgia for an analog past, but a profoundly contemporary choice—a central territory of research and critical attention.
With this project, Fondazione Sozzani renews its commitment to recognizing photography as a cultural language open to dialogue with other disciplines and capable of critically engaging with the tradition of the visual arts—from painting and sculpture to installation— offering the public an opportunity to rethink, through different works and perspectives, the complexity and vitality of the contemporary image.
